The memory hole in 1984 is a small incinerator that burns everything and anything that is put into it. This symbolizes how the society of Oceania tries to destroy all information that is not given by Big Brother. It also shows how they try to get rid of remains/evidence from that past in order to keep their society one way, the way they want it.
