Syme is an intelligent and outgoing man. He works at the Ministry of Truth with Winston, and specializes in language. Syme is working on a new edition of the Newspeak dictionary. Winston believes Syme is too intelligent for his own good. He also believes that he is too smart for the Party's favor.
